Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants
We’re proud to share that our managing shareholder, Dennis Sherrin, is serving as the 2019-2020 Chair for the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants (ASCPA). Dennis has been on the board since 2014 and officially became the chair at the celebration of ASCPA’s 100th Anniversary earlier this month.
ASCPA’s mission is to enhance Alabama’s accounting profession through advocacy, education and member engagement. The accounting industry is facing many changes, including legislation updates, new tax laws, and constantly evolving technology. Representing over 6,000 CPAs in our state, ASCPA’s staff and Board of Directors work relentlessly to serve the needs of Alabama CPAs.
Hear more about this mission on Playing Above the Line’s interview with ASCPA CEO Jeannine Birmingham.
Dennis’s duties will involve a lot of travel and educational opportunities. In May, he attended AICPA Spring Meeting of Council, in Washington D. C. and visited Capital Hill to meet with the Alabama legislative delegation and advocate for matters important to our profession. Through the year, he will meet with leaders and firms around the state.
As Chair, Dennis is looking forward to a year of giving back to the accounting profession. An advocate for accelerating change to keep up with ever-evolving technology and service opportunities, Dennis plans to encourage firms around the state to become comfortable with being uncomfortable in the pace of change and invest in their people and in their technology.
Regarding this position, Dennis says, “It is an honor to be Chair of the ASCPA board. I am excited for the opportunity to share the vision of our great profession’s future over the next year. We have an excellent board that shares that vision. The staff at ASCPA, led by Jeannine Birmingham, are incredibly talented and committed to service to our members. I am fortunate to get to work with and learn from these amazing people!”
