As a long-time resident of the Eastern Shore, Earl is deeply committed to serving his community through many organizations including Sertoma (SERvice TO MAnkind), in which he has been an active member for over 30 years.  His dedication and loyalty are reflected in the care he gives to his clients, many of whom have relied on his guidance for years.  As a specialist in business processes and accounting issues for businesses, Earl helps his clients achieve maximum efficiency and profitability through careful business and tax planning.

Earl is a Lean Six Sigma CPA Green Belt.  Lean and Six Sigma is a methodology that uses proven strategies, tools and collaborative team effort to continuously improve a process by systematically removing waste.  He has utilized his certification for processes within hb&k as well as for companies nation-wide.  His extensive knowledge and expertise in accounting has earned him invitations to present to the industry’s most prestigious conferences including Winning Is Everything, the Association of Accounting Administrators, the Alabama Society of CPAs, and the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics Practice Management Association.

In 2016, Earl was appointed by the Governor to the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy.  The purpose of the Board is to supervise the practice of public accountancy in Alabama. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board.

Earl and his wife, Lisa, reside in Spanish Fort.  They have four children (Nathan, Nicole, Claire & Mallory), son-in-law David and three grandchildren.  Earl and Lisa attend Eastern Shore Baptist Church where Earl taught Sunday school, and has served as Chairman of the Finance Committee and as a deacon.  They enjoy spending time with family, traveling and watching Braves baseball (actually, only Earl is the FAN).

Dennis focuses on consulting for businesses on vision, strategy, business transition and organizational development to effectively utilize the collective talents of its people. As a Kolbe Certified Consultant, he helps organizations (including the firm) understand individual’s natural talents to better utilize those talents for company success and better work environments.

Dennis chose to pursue an accounting degree with the expectation it would offer the greatest opportunity to become a business leader.  At the time he made his educational choice, Dennis did not envision being a Managing Shareholder as the path his career would follow.  Now, he cannot imagine a different path.  As the firm’s Managing Shareholder, Dennis is responsible for guiding all aspects of the practice including its vision and strategic plan.  Dennis relies on the observations of the client organizations he has worked with to influence his ideology on vision, leadership, business and life-work balance.

Dennis and his wife, Amy, reside in Fairhope with their rescued dogs and cats.  They have two sons residing in Birmingham and Troy. Dennis and Amy participate in numerous local activities and are members of Fairhope United Methodist Church.  They enjoy traveling, hiking, kayaking and experiencing the foods of the local restaurants along their travel routes. and

Rachel is a Shareholder of hb&k in the Brewton Office.  She joined the firm in 2001 and is currently serving as the Director of Accounting and Audit Services. Rachel has spent much of her career providing audit and assurance services as well as tax and advisory services to clients in the governmental, non-profit, hospitality, professional services, construction, agriculture, and manufacturing industries.  She enjoys working with her clients to understand how their businesses operate and how hb&k can help them achieve their goals.

As chairperson of the firm’s Technology Committee, she enjoys helping the firm develop innovative solutions to its technology needs.  Rachel has a love for helping people and building relationships which resonates both within the firm and with her clients.  She had the opportunity to share her expertise by participating as a session leader in the 2016 Thomson Reuters Synergy Conference.  She has also been recognized as a Bridging the Gap 2015 Winner through the Emerging Leader award, an award presented by Boomer Consulting, Inc. each year.

Rachel resides in Jay, Florida.  She enjoys spending time with her family and attending the Golden Memorial Holiness Church where she sings in the choir.  She is a devoted Atlanta Braves baseball fan.  Rachel enjoys reading, playing the piano, cooking, and relaxing at her family’s pond.  She also enjoys traveling and considers taking a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon and watching a Broadway play in NYC to be highlights of some of her recent trips.

Allen brings over 20 years of experience in public accounting to our firm.  Before joining hb&k, Allen was a sole practitioner in Brewton, Alabama, and built his practice assisting small to mid-sized businesses with a wide variety of accounting, tax and consulting services.  Since joining hb&k in 2011, he has concentrated his practice in the areas of tax compliance and consulting where he works with various businesses, individuals and not for profit entities.

As the Director of Tax Services, Allen is leading the firm’s efforts in expanding tax advisory services to our clients.  As Shareholder at our Foley Office and as a member of our training/learning committee and technology process task force, he is committed to staff development.

Allen and his wife, Madelyn, reside in Brewton with their two children Garrett and Abigail.  They enjoy traveling and spending time with their family.  Allen is an avid Auburn football fan.

A Troy University graduate, LeeAnn works primarily in the area of audit while overseeing engagements and building relationships with existing and potential clients. Her experience and areas of expertise include financial statement audits,  forensic accounting and internal controls analysis.  She works with a variety of industries including municipalities, utility boards, construction, real estate and international matters.  LeeAnn has been able to share her expertise by participating as a session leader in the Thomson Reuters Synergy Conference where she demonstrated how hb&k has embraced efficiencies in our audit processes.   She is a member of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Amber joined hb&k in 2016 and her expertise is in individual, partnership, and corporate tax and bookkeeping. She received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Auburn University and recently completed the Uniform CPA Examination.

Amber actively supports hb&k’s community efforts by participating in the FUSE Project’s Dragon Boat Race, various chamber activities and by volunteering in the ASCPA’s Classroom Blitz Project at Foley High School.

Amber enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, William, and their two children, McKenzie and Caleb. In her spare time, you can find Amber at the Foley YMCA (5:00 am) where she is a Body Pump fitness instructor.  She is a member of City Hope Church where she serves as a team captain.

Carly graduated from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration and then earned a Masters of Accountancy from The University of South Alabama.  She completed both a Summer Accounting Internship as well an Audit Internship with hb&k prior to joining us full time in 2016 as a Staff Accountant.

She has been very involved in our audit department performing internal control analysis, audits, compilations and reviews for small companies, government agencies, 401k’s and not for profit organizations.

Carly enjoys spending time with her cat, Lil’ Boo (aka Ms. Kitty), traveling, and going to the beach.  During the fall you will find her watching Alabama Football!

Cheri is originally from Louisville, Kentucky where she began her extensive career in administration in a variety of industries including legal, real estate and of course accounting (her first job) and a business owner as well.

Cheri moved to Alabama 20 years ago and started working for hb&k in 2007.  As Firm Administrator, she wears many hats; however, she always finds time to volunteer for firm activities and fundraisers.  Whether rowing a boat at the FUSE Project’s Dragon Boat Race, walking in the American Heart Association Heart Walk or representing hb&k at numerous charity golf tournaments - she always has a smile and is willing to offer a helping hand!

Cheri was married to the love of her life, C.J., for over 9 amazing years and they have four children (Melanie, Logan, Ian & Savannah).  Cheri enjoys kayaking, biking, hiking to spectacular waterfalls, reading and music.  Cheri is looking forward to spending more time traveling in the coming years.   She attends the Grace Anglican Church in Fairhope, is a member of the Slow Bicycle Society (yes, that actually exists) and enjoys volunteering for the Mobile Symphony Orchestra.

Chris is a graduate of the University of South Alabama and received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting.  Chris participated in the 2014 Spring Internship Program leading to a permanent position on our hb&k team. He serves clients of all industries specifically in litigation support, tax services, and auditing and assurance. He also has experience in governmental auditing and individual, entity and fiduciary taxation.

Supporting local community fundraisers, Chris can always be counted on – especially if golf is involved!  The Fairhope Rotary Youth Club, Kiwanis, and Young CPA Charity are just a few of the tournaments he enjoys participating in.

Chris enjoys traveling!  On the weekends you will often find him spending time outdoors hiking and golfing with friends or enjoying a great concert.

Diane is a graduate of the University of South Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Finance.  Her extensive 25 year career in banking began while she was still in college with experience that included retail and commercial lending, employee management and ultimately serving as Market President.  Providing Five Star customer service to clients, quick responses and taking care of their needs she developed a loyal customer base.  These are the same skills she brought to hb&k along with an extensive network of professional contacts to assist our clients.  Diane joined us in 2014 as the Director of Client Services and Business Development, focusing her efforts on servicing our existing clients as well as identifying and cultivating growth opportunities.

Diane enjoys giving back to the community with fundraising events for the firm and you will find her in the middle of it all.  In the spring, you will often find her on the golf course at charity tournaments serving our well known margaritas, see her at the Rotary Steak Cook Off collecting votes, or at the FUSE Project’s Dragon Boat Race keeping the beat of the drum.

She also enjoys volunteering for the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce, Point Clear Rotary, University of South Alabama Baldwin County Alumni Chapter as well as various not for profit organizations. She previously served on many local boards including the South Baldwin United Way, Point Clear Rotary, Thomas Hospital Foundation and Eastern Shore Repertory Theatre.

She and her husband, Dan, call Baldwin County home after living here over 25 years. They often spend their weekends attending concerts or enjoying local restaurants; however, during their free time, traveling is their passion!

At hb&k, Erann serves clients in a wide variety of industries by providing assurance services such as audits, reviews, compilations, tax services, forensic accounting and litigation support.  She is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Professional Accounting.

Erann is extremely active at hb&k through participating on various committees such as Five Star Client Service and the Fun Committee (yes, we actually have a committee that only plans FUN activities for our staff).  In addition, Erann is always willing to serve our infamous hb&k margaritas at golf tournament fundraisers, paddle the boat for our team at the Dragon Boat Race or walk for the American Heart Association Heart Walk.

When Erann is not at work, you will find her at the ballpark watching her son, Alex, play baseball or spending time on the water enjoying the beach, boating and fishing with her husband, Justin.

Grant joined hb&k following a tax internship in the spring of 2019. A Spanish Fort native, he graduated from Troy University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Grant assists clients by completing work on tax, audit and client accounting engagements.

As a Certified Kolbe Consultant, Kari helps companies and organizations build better teams by understanding natural talents and skills of the individuals.

Being involved in the community is important to Kari and she is actively involved in the Eastern Shore Chambers of Commerce Young Professionals as well as Sertoma.

In her free time, Kari enjoys running and traveling. She is also an adjunct instructor at Spring Hill College where she teaches an evening course in public speaking.

Kirsten was an intern with hb&k during the spring of 2016.  Following her internship, she returned to Auburn University to complete a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting.  After graduating, she joined our audit team in Fairhope.  Although she primarily works in audit, Kirsten also prepares tax returns during our busy season.

Kirsten enjoys any activity that is outdoors.  You will often find her boating with friends on the weekend. She participates in community events representing the firm at the Fairhope Rotary Steak Cook-off and as a shooter on our team at the Mobile Area Boy Scout Clay Shoot.

Marian joined hb&k in 2008 and has been a CPA for over 25 years.  Over the years she has become proficient in many areas of tax return preparation, including corporations, partnerships, trusts, not for profit entities and individuals. She specializes in small businesses in a variety of industries including health care, retail, legal, construction and insurance.

Marian received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of South Alabama.  While studying at USA, she received The Robert Merton Certificate of Achievement for accomplishments in sociology. After graduating, she studied accounting and became certified to practice public accounting in Texas and Florida.  She is licensed as a CPA in Alabama and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Robert graduated from the University of Spring Hill College in 1988 and has more than 30 years of assurance and accounting experience prior to arriving at hb&k. He specializes in governmental auditing. Prior to joining hb&k in February 2019, Robert was a partner at Betancourt and King CPA since the early 2000s.

Robert enjoys spending his free time with his wife, Catherine and their son James along with their rescue dogs Charlie, Sampson and Buddy. In addition to that Robert is a fan of college football, particularly the Alabama Crimson Tide and college basketball. When time allows he does enjoy swimming as well.

Shortly after joining our team, Stephen earned his CPA designation. Working in our Mobile location, Stephen is an asset to our team by working in both the tax and audit departments.

Stephen is an avid sports fan and supports the USA Jaguars, Auburn Tigers, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Braves.  In addition to rooting for his favorite teams, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Elizabeth, their daughter, Abigail, and their miniature schnauzer, Gus.

Tammy has been a part of the hb&k team for over 22 years, the majority of her professional career. A Troy University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Tammy is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants, Foley Performing Arts Association, and Troy University Alumni Band.

Tammy chairs our Fun Committee and organizes many hb&k events (especially when they involve cooking) such as our chamber business afterhours and Rotary Steak Cook-off.  She serves as Manager in our Tax Department and utilizes her 20 plus years in accounting volunteering to speak at Chamber and SCORE events discussing various tax related topics.

Tammy and her husband, Skip, have two children, Ian and Luci, and a golden retriever, Stella. They love spending time with family and friends, cooking together and their favorite vacation in the whole wide world is Disney (Tammy has been over 15 times).

Treya moved from Maui, Hawaii when she was 18 years old to attend the University of Mobile where she received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master’s in Business Administration.  Upon graduation, she lived briefly in Nashville where she worked as an auditor for a public accounting firm before returning to the Fairhope area.  Treya started working for hb&k in 2016 in both the audit and tax departments.
